The verdict

Buy it if

People who want a high-sodium mix but find sodium-only formulas leave them flat, and anyone who prefers buying in bulk.

Skip it if

You need something pocketable for a race or a flight, or you want precisely repeatable dosing.

What's good

  • Roughly 2:1 sodium-to-potassium — closer to a full mineral replacement than sodium-only mixes
  • Includes calcium and magnesium as well as the headline two
  • No added sugar
  • Unflavoured option available (1,000 mg sodium / 500 mg potassium per serving)

What's not

  • Potassium is the weakest of any certified option here
  • Scoop-based serving is easier to measure inconsistently
  • Still a high-sodium product — not a casual all-day drink
  • No third-party banned-substance certification publicly stated

The ratio is the point

Re-Lyte carries 810 mg of sodium against 400 mg of potassium — roughly 2:1. Most high-sodium mixes are far more lopsided; LMNT runs 5:1. Whether that matters to you depends on what you are replacing, but potassium intake falls below recommendations far more commonly across the population than sodium does.

It also includes 60 mg of calcium, 50 mg of magnesium and a stated 1,280 mg of chloride, which makes it one of the few products here to publish a full five-mineral panel rather than the headline two.

Real Salt, and what that does and does not mean

The formula is built on Redmond Real Salt, an unrefined sea salt marketed on its trace mineral content. That claim is true in the narrow sense — unrefined salt does contain trace minerals — but the quantities involved are very small, and it is not a reason to choose this over a competitor on its own.

The better reasons are the mineral ratio, the absence of added sugar, and the fact that an unflavoured version exists carrying 1,000 mg sodium and 500 mg potassium for people who want to mix it into their own drinks.

The format costs it a place

A tub and scoop is cheaper per serving than sticks and produces less packaging, but it is not something you take to a race or through airport security. Scoop measurement is also less consistent than a pre-weighed stick — easy to under- or over-dose without noticing.

If portability matters more than cost, Nuun Sport tablets or LMNT sticks solve that problem better.

Redmond Re-Lyte Hydration questions

How is Re-Lyte different from LMNT?

Similar sodium level — 810 mg against 1,000 mg — but Re-Lyte carries double the potassium at 400 mg, plus calcium and magnesium that LMNT does not state. Re-Lyte comes in a tub, LMNT in sticks. Choose Re-Lyte for the fuller mineral profile and lower cost per serving, LMNT for portability and the higher sodium dose.

Does the unflavoured version have the same amounts?

No. The unflavoured Re-Lyte carries roughly 1,000 mg sodium and 500 mg potassium per serving rather than the 810/400 of the flavoured version. Check the panel on the tub you buy.

Is Re-Lyte suitable for a keto diet?

Sodium losses do rise on a low-carbohydrate diet because lower insulin reduces sodium retention by the kidneys, so a high-sodium mix with no added sugar fits that use case. Re-Lyte contains no added sugar and no carbohydrate.
